the struggle

So, I got to thinking today about how much we (in today's society of immediate gratification) want the end result without the work, the learning, the process... the struggle. We want everything, like, now now now. Burgers, phone calls, tweets, ebay, overnight shipping, Skype, call-ahead seating, Jiffy Lube, Starbucks. We live in the land of ask and you shall receive (in 60 seconds or less).

Stack on top of that, that the people we "idolize" are rappers, singers, athletes, and pseudo-pornstars. These are the people with fame and wealth. Let me rephrase: "These are the FEW people with fame and wealth." And so many of our generation want THAT kind of success. And of course they'd like it now. But even these "lucky" people aren't that lucky. The athletes, the artists (although many are naturally very talented) have worked. They have worked harder than ALL the other naturally talented people out there. They have worked two jobs. Stayed up all night recording. Played gigs for free. Worked out 3 and 4 times a day in the summer. They have pushed and pushed and pushed. They have struggled and they have learned. And then struggled some more.

So to all of my fellow dreamers, just remember just because you say you want it doesn't mean you REALLY do. You have to be willing to put in the work. Besides, the harder the struggle, the more likely you are to NEVER LET GO OF YOUR SUCCESS when you do achieve those goals!

PS. I am not sure what the deal is with the famous pseudo-pornstars. ???
